DS 120- Graphic Design / Book Cover

ASSIGNMENT- Recreate a book cover for a book related to design, using Adobe Illustrator with the goal of communicating the thematic ideas of the book through visual elements and compositional principles. 

 

PROJECT- This project is a redesign of the book cover of Case Study Houses by Elizabeth A.T. Smith, which covers the history and design of the Case Study houses. There were only 8 of 36 projects actually built, and for that reason I wanted my redesign to focus on the drafting and planning phases of the design process. I used one of my planning sketches in the final redesign so that the cover had a paper texture and emphasized the idea of drafting. Red, yellow, and blue are common colors throughout the Case Study houses, so I used delicate lines and circles in this color scheme to suggest how specific details might be implemented into a design. This cover is intentionally simplistic and is meant to give the reader a glimpse into the development process and characteristics of the case study houses.
